Members of the Mission Police Dept. provided a special greeting for Madeline Cabrera, a 6th grader at Morris Middle School, on Nov. 9, 2020. Her father, Jorge Cabrera, served 12 years on the Mission Police Force before passing away from COVID-19 in August, 2020. This was Madeline's first day back at school for face-to-face learning and Mission PD was there for her. In the Rio Grande Valley, many communities are intertwined with children attending schools in one community while their parents work in a neighboring community but the support across communities remains a Valley hallmark.
In the main photo, Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez gives a hug to student Madeline Cabrera. In the group photo, Morris Principal Brian McClenny and Chief Dominguez stand next to Madeline along with additional Mission police officers who welcomed Madeline to school.
